Best Whitewater Adventure Company Near Saratoga & Lake George

About Us

The Legend of SOC

In 1988, John Duncan opened the Sacandaga Outdoor Center without a bit of whitewater rafting experience. A seasoned skier and winter sport fanatic, John was the owner of several ski and outdoor shops in New York and Vermont. Many of his staff were also avid whitewater rafters who needed summer work. So to keep his employees busy, John hired them as rafting guides, and SOC was born.

We are the only outfitter located on the River. Located at the confluence of the Hudson and Sacandaga Rivers, just a short ride from both Lake George and Saratoga Springs. Your Trip ends back at our Raft Headquarters where you checked in, so there’s no need for a return bus trip. Spend more time on the River and less time on a bus!

We put the fun in rafting. Our rafts are equipped with water cannons and bailing buckets so the fun continues between the rapids. SOC has been providing fun
memorable experiences for over 35 years!

We have the best trained, most experienced, and entertaining guides in the business. They Love what they do by sharing their unique character and style with SOC flare!
Many of our guides are requested year after year by our returning guests and groups.

Over 35 Years of Rafting the Sacandaga River

Over the past 35 years, John and his staff have developed impressive rafting and kayaking resumes, boasting the rivers of Costa Rica, Mexico, Canada, The United States, Europe, Central and South America. A family operation, John’s daughter Jessica, (Jessie to most and second in command), is an accomplished guide and instructor as well, earning her nickname of “Sneak” for her ability to finesse her way through difficult passages of whitewater.

A fluke? A happy accident? Call it what you will, but what began as a way to give his Ski Shop Staff year round employment, has become the leading whitewater company in New York.
